Outflow

Proverbs 11: 25 says: “those who  refresh others will themselves be refreshed“.

John 7:38 says: “He who believes in me…out of his heart will flow rivers of living water”. Here Jesus is reminding us that when we receive and respond to His fullness and freedom, blessing will overflow in our lives and refresh others. We just need to keep focused on the source – the fountain of the spirit – a river that flows in & out of our lives that overcomes obstacles in the way & keeps rushing on.

Oswald Chambers says: ‘If you believe in Jesus, you will find that God has developed and nourished in you mighty, rushing rivers of blessing for others.’

God is the source of this river and it’s destination is ultimate refreshment described for us in Revelation 21:4: “There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” & Rev 22:5: “There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.”

Heaven is often a hard concept to get your head around. Some years ago after being told about her Great Grandmothers death and that she’d gone to be in ‘heaven’ my young niece was over-heard telling her little friend that ‘grandma had died and gone to be with ‘Kevin’! Rhymes nicely but I’m sure Kevin would be a poor substitute for what God has planned for those who love him…

Take a moment to imagine heaven…

One thing is for sure – no matter how amazing you imagination it to be… It’s going to be so much better!

More often than not, there are days I find my soul restless (as Phil Wickham sings in his song; ‘Heaven Song’) ‘for the place that I belong‘… I’m reminded that I’m not home when I see or hear of another injustice, another friend fighting cancer, another marriage on the rocks, another child abused… one day… one day, it will be a perfect world and we’ll be singing our heaven song.

We live in a social media world – because of that you can: find me on facebook, follow me on twitter, learn about me @ my blogspot – but there’s one that trumps them all;  you can meet me in heaven!

Because of what Christ did I’ll be there! Because of a choice I made to respond to what He did… I’ll be there. Have you responded – will you?

You have a friend request from Jesus (putting it in social media terms). He didn’t just do a search on your name and click a link – He formed you, loves you, died for you! And He’s not going to unfriend you either – for all those that have been rejected, let down, cast aside. Christ is following you, seeking you, friending you… Loving you. Will you follow Him & love Him back? Will you live for Him?

The full verse of Proverbs 11:24 says: “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”
The bible encourages us to be generous – while we live in anticipation of heaven; to live generously – God will then take care of the blessing outflow.

Give and live like heaven is close – real close – cos in many ways – it is!

At LifeBridge this weekend our theme was; being Refresh in the new world – the hope of heaven. These were my thoughts as I prepared to lead in worship. Below is a link to watch/listen to the message (posted this coming week) and then a link to the worship set.
