Leave Room For God

I’m driving east on our state hwy when out of NOWHERE a car u-turns right in front of me and I SLAM on the brakes, my bag fly’s off the passenger seat, the booster seat in the back (fortunately with no kid in it) slams into the back of the divers seat and I severely reduce the tread on my tires.

The offending car immediately accelerates out of the turn and away from my wrath needless to say I didn’t feel very Christian or forgiving – in fact I wanted to drive right up and give a good dose of the stink eye & mouth angrily ‘WHAT ARE YOU DOING’ & maybe add some special Australian words, or even French ones!

Fortunately I didn’t get a chance to be that hypocritical (it may surprise or even astound you that I’ve done a few stupid things in traffic in my time!)

Truth is; I wasn’t expecting this – just like I often don’t expect God to show up in my life! I often find myself cruising along and then I get surprised when God has to make a u-turn right in front of me to get my attention!

Oswald Chambers in his classic: My Utmost For His Highest, reminded me this week to leave room for God to show up:

“He may break in at any minute. We tend to overlook this element of surprise, yet God never works in any other way. Suddenly – God meets our life – “…when it pleased God…” (Gal 1:15 ) Keep your life so constantly in touch with God that His surprising power can break through at any point. Live in a constant state of expectancy, and leave room for God to come in as He decides”

God’s story is all about Him showing up in the lives of His people. When we live expectantly we can be sure of one thing: He will show up in some way… He always does!

At LifeBridge this weekend we began our year long look at ‘The Story’ – (Randy Frazee & Max Lucado’s ‘easy to engage’ chronological translation of the Bible).

These were my thoughts as I prepared to lead in worship. Below is a link to watch/listen to the message (posted this coming week) and then a link to the worship set.
